Amazon-Sold Window Shades Recalled for Child Strangulation Hazard

January 27, 2025

Federal authorities are recalling nearly 20,000 sets of roller window shades sold exclusively on Amazon.com due to entanglement and strangulation hazards for children. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the safety recall on Jan. 23, also reporting that the product was in violation of federal labeling standards.

Affected in the safety recall are some 19,500 sets of ChrisDowa Roller Window Shades sold in multiple colors, ranging in size from 20 inches to 27 inches wide and 72 inches high. Consumers can identify the blinds  — manufactured in China by Shaoxingkeqiao Nenghaozhenfang Co. Ltd. — by the ChrisDowa brand name printed on the label sticker and headrail, the commission stated. The products were sold online at Amazon.com from December 2022 through September 2024 at a cost ranging from $11 to $344.

“The recalled roller shades have long operating cords that pose strangulation and entanglement hazards to children in violation of the federal regulations for window coverings,” the commission stated. “The shades also violate labeling requirements for window coverings.”

No incidents or injuries related to the defect had yet been reported.

The commission advised consumers who purchased the blinds to keep the cords out of the reach of children and contact the manufacturer, which will provide an operating cord wand at no additional charge. To receive the remedy, consumers should cut the cord, then take a photo of the product and email it to recallchrisdowa@163.com. Upon receiving the photo, the manufacturer will send the consumer a repair kit with installation instructions via Amazon or FedEx.
